Santa Rosa Quilt Guild

Santa Rosa, California

June 2005

June, 2005, I landed in San Francisco, California and was met at the airport for a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and into the wine country of northern California.  Sharon and Harry put me up in their guest room in their home in Sonoma.  They rolled out red carpets and hosted one of my finest visits, ever.

From the top of a mountain, their home overlooks many miles of the Sonoma Valley, and on a clear day the Golden Gate Bridge is seen about 35 miles away.

Sonoma was a delightful architectural mix of yesterday and today, and some of the structural designs were visually delicious.

I wanted to take some of the town home with me, but packaging seemed impossible.  Such elegance, charm and textural beauty.

California:  lover of beauty.   Flowers were everywhere and everywhere was wonderful.

The next morning found us on our way farther north to Santa Rosa and the Santa Rosa Quilt Guild.  We traveled through miles and miles of vineyards, rich black soil, and the earth at its best.

About 150 avid quilters welcomed me into their monthly meeting and heard my slide lecture.  At noon they served a buffet lunch fit for the queen.  I've never been more genuinely received.

And the following morning I and a full class of quilters set out on a two day workshop that ended with terrific results.  Each quilter in the class did  extraordinary work , and a few of them agreed to photography that I feature below.  Please wander through these photos and enjoy some extremely handsome quilt pieces done as wall hangings, etc.

I hope the guild invites me back sometime -- it was a really good experience.
