June,
2005, and I was at the annual New Jersey Quilt Convention in Edison,
New Jersey, the Garden State of the U.S. The Convention featured
500 outstanding quilts in a juried show that could rival any major
quilt show in the country.
I was
invited to teach a two day workshop in fabric painting, machine
rough edge appliqué, and free motion quilting. I also did a slide
lecture to a lunch buffet group of quilters taking a break from the
demands of their classes, and other quilters who were simply doing
time out from walking through rows and rows of quilt displays.
And, of course, serious shopping through nearly one hundred
vendors' booths is enough to tire the best of shoppers.
The New
Jersey Show was a wonderful and beautiful exhibit of quilting at its
best. There were categories to please everyone, regardless of
special interests, and superior work in each group.
But my job
was to teach a workshop to a full class of quilting students who
were ready to go. We worked straight through day one, each did
hours of homework that evening, and day two was filled with several
hours of of intensive efforts. Each class member gave it his/her
best, and the photos below leave no doubt that this is true.
Browse, enjoy, and plan to attend next year's New Jersey Show.
