They come from
all around the United States and sometimes as far away as Canada.
They come to French Lick, Indiana to a Quilters’ Retreat
specifically geared for quilters wanting to paint their own fabrics,
design their own quilts and break away from others’ patterns.
Each Retreat is
three days and two nights long, and there are four of these events
dated and scattered throughout the months of September and October,
2005. Please refer to my
website, for 2006 Retreats at French Lick. Those dates will
appear on my Calendar
about the end of December.
More
participants come from California than any other state, but they
also fly and drive in from Arizona, Utah, Texas, Alabama, Florida,
Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania,
Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, West
Virginia, Indiana, and other states. And some come from Ontario,
Canada.
Late September,
2005, marked the beginning of another
French Lick Retreat.
Several avid and enthusiastic quilters gathered in this tiny
community of less than two thousand, and set out on a trip of each
painting two yards of fabric, and then using that same fabric for
their own individual work.
We had worked
through only half of the entire workshop when these quilters renamed
the event “Phil Beaver’s Boot Camp” ?????? Was it something I
said? What? I’ll take it back!!! I’ll never do it again!!! I
don’t know where this came from!!!!
But
whatever they call it, these folks did some extremely handsome work
and went back home after three days in French Lick with some rich
and beautiful quilt pieces.
Spend some
time browsing about their work and you’ll agree it’s extraordinary.
