Fernie, British
Columbia, Canada
April 2005
|
|
I returned
yesterday, April 18, 2005, from a quilting seminar in Canada,
sponsored by Eleanor Cook at The Cotton Tree Quilt Shop on the
historic main street in Fernie, British Columbia. Established
in 1889, the small town of 5,000 nestled in a brief, open area of
the Canadian Rockies. It was all a great experience: the
local folks, the town, the mountains. I look forward to a
return visit in 2006.

|

The flight seemed endless as we flew over the
Rocky Mountains in northwestern Montana. |

The following seven photos feature
only some of the participating quilters attending the Fernie
workshop. They came from as far away as near Vancouver and left a
bit early for a long drive home, and before picture taking began.
These pieces are not quite finished in the photos.

Fernie, British Columbia, Canada I stayed at the Park Place Hotel
in Fernie. It's the yellow building with the green roof at the left
edge of the photograph. |

An evening view from my hotel room. My stay in Fernie came with
plenty of rain, sleet, snow, and very little sun. |

| I include views of the
historic, business district of Fernie, British Columbia, a warm and
friendly place with a backdrop of the mighty Rockies. All seems very
historic, but I believe the Rocky Mountains were there first.
|
As we drove from Fernie and back to the airport for my ride home, the
scenery was overwhelming. A real cowboy and his dog tended a big
herd of herford cows.
The
cowboy came to me at the fence, and as he put it, "so the tourist
could get a better picture." Andy posed a moment with his horse and
border collie. |
|
 My
four days in Fernie were wonderful, but time came to board a jet and head
back to the U.S. |
We flew high above the mountains, into the clouds
and beyond. |
| |
|
I have two jobs scheduled in the Canadian Rockies for 2006. I'm
anxious to return, but for now Fernie is a memory, a good memory
that will last for a very long time.
Thanks, Eleanor,
and thanks quilters for a day that will last longer than a day.
