Who is Phil Beaver?
Phil Beaver is retired from public school
teaching, and, during many of those working years, he also owned and
operated the exclusive Beaver House Dinner Theater where nearly thirty live
performers amused sell-out crowds. His teaching career in fine arts
covered areas of silversmithing and other metalsmithing, drawing, and fiber
design.
He is the father of one and grandfather of
one. Sylbie is three years old and Phil's best buddy.
Phil Beaver found quilts and quilt shows by
chance in 2000. Some first quilting attempts followed soon after that,
but he became serious and more productive as a quilter and quilt teacher in
2003. As of January, 2006, he has produced ten large quilts and won 59
major awards, including nine Best of Show awards, in the most major quilt shows
in the world.
He appears regularly on HGTV's Simply Quilts
with Alex Anderson, and is often seen on cable's DIY channel, also.
His work and quilting accomplishments have been featured in over 50 related
magazine publications.
Free Spirit in New York City produced a J.
Phil Beaver fabric collection, "Indiana Heritage" fabrics. The fabrics
are currently sold in leading quilt shops and other businesses throughout
North America and the world, and are also available on Phil's website,
www.philbeaver.com . He has an
extensive line of original patterns available, including a complete and easy
to understand pattern for "Indiana Heritage," a quilt made from the "Indiana
Heritage" fabric collection.
Phil Beaver teaches his quilting and fabric
painting techniques all over the United States and Canada. Each year
these workshops number over 30, and are sponsored by many quilt guilds and
most major quilt shows in the world. But he always maintains the best
of the workshop/seminars are held each autumn at his hometown, French Lick,
Indiana. These events always include a full evening and sit-down
dinner that Phil prepares in his own home. Many of his quilts are on
display throughout the dwelling, and it's a big evening of food and
camaraderie.
